Privacy Policy

Overview
This page covers tidytext.cc, the free web version of TidyText. Your text never leaves your browser, there are no accounts, and the only data collected is standard analytics, which you can turn off below. The desktop app, TidyText Offline, has its own separate policy at tidytext.cc/offline/privacy.
How TidyText (web) handles your text
Your text never touches a server. All processing happens locally in your browser using web workers. Nothing you type is stored, logged, or sent to us.
Third-party services
The web app uses two third-party services:
Google Analytics collects standard usage data: pages visited, browser type, and general location. To do that, Google sees the IP address of your request and uses it to estimate a coarse location. It does not have access to the text you process. In our analytics configuration, both event-level data and user-level data are retained for 14 months, after which it is deleted automatically.
Sentry collects error reports if something goes wrong. Sentry is active in the web workers that handle text processing, which means in the event of an error, some context from that operation could be included in an error report. We use this only to fix bugs.
Neither service is used to sell ads or share your data with third parties beyond what their own privacy policies describe. If you'd prefer zero third-party telemetry, use TidyText Offline, the desktop app, which makes no analytics calls at all.
Cookies and your choices
The only cookies on tidytext.cc are the ones Google Analytics sets (the _ga identifiers). There are no advertising or third-party tracking cookies.
How your choice works depends on where you are:
- EU and UK visitors: on your first visit you'll see a banner with equal Accept and Reject options. Until you Accept, no analytics cookies are set and you can't be identified. Google may still receive a basic, anonymous signal (the page address and a rough, IP-based location), but it's never tied to you and never includes your text. If you don't decide, or 13 months pass, you'll be asked again.
- Everyone else: analytics is on by default, and you can turn it off anytime using the toggle below. Once you opt out, you stay opted out (we don't ask again).
Your choice is stored locally in your browser, not on a server. Google Analytics respects it through Google Consent Mode: when analytics is off, no cookies are set and you can't be identified. Google may still receive a basic, anonymous signal (the page address and a rough, IP-based location), but it's never linked to you and never includes the text you process.

What we don't collect
On the web version, we never collect:
- The text you process. It stays in your browser.
- Account information, because there are no accounts.
We don't store your IP address ourselves or build a profile from it. The third-party services this site uses (Google Analytics and Sentry) necessarily see the IP address of requests made to them, the same way every internet service does. That's described under Third-party services above.
Feedback and support
We use a Google Form for feedback and support requests. If you submit it, it collects whatever you write, and, if you choose to include it, your email address so we can reply. Responses are stored in Google's systems and governed by Google's privacy policy. We use them only to respond to you and improve the product.
TidyText Offline updates
If you sign up to hear about TidyText Offline, we collect your email address to email you about it, starting with the launch. We use it only for that. Sign-ups are stored and sent through Resend, our email provider, and governed by Resend's privacy policy. You can unsubscribe from any email we send.
